A&P Do you set WB on the cam or adjust later on in LR (or similar software)

    So I always need to bring a piece of white paper everytime I got out and shot something to get the right wb? :ugh:

    I either shoot raw and adjust in post or just use liveview to dial in the exact kelvin :run:

    change it in post.

    Never had an issue.

    The only time I ever use custom white balance is on small "studio" shots.. Like in a small white box.. I use the custom so that the white is exactly the right shade and everything else is as well.. Only because I find it much easier doing it that way. Otherwise, I don't do custom :dunno:

    If i dont have a gray card, Ill adjust in the camera matching it to the closest setting possible and THEN also adjust in LR

    i try to do it at the time of the shoot so i have less work to do in post.

    I use gray card only in difficult light settings. I just take a photo of it and match the WB of subsequent pictures taken in same lighting condition in post instead of using WB PRESET function in camera.

    While we're on the subject of WB I got a question. I bought a light pollution filter that should arrive soon and its going to throw off my white balance on my astro photos. Is it necessary to make a custom WB or can I adjust it out in post. I'd like to be able to batch process all frames to the same WB since I shoot hundreds in a night.

    Or can the WB be adjusted once I've finished processing the image in PS and its now a TIFF?

    I try and set it in camera, but I usually mess w/ it more later in PP

    We always do this with our DVcams but on DSLR's

    Its all depends on the location and lighting, I take example pictures and review them to make sure i got the right white balance because i shoot jpeg.

    i use custom WB on red carpets and thats about it. everything else is AWB and chaneg in post if needed. But i shoot in weird lighting conditions where teh colors are always changing
