I normally give it a flick through to check the controls even though most games include tutorials now.

It usually depends on the game.

The deeper the game, the more likely I am to look at the manual.

I don't read through it but I'll usually take a look at it. I check options for controls, but even that's almost a waste of time these days because games usually have tutorials.

If I just bought the game and I'm waiting for some reason before I can play it, I'll sometimes read the book just for fun. Otherwise I just use it to find particular information as needed.

In fact I wish we could order games without manual and making it say $5 cheaper. It really is just a waste of extra cost IMO.

Actually... I remember when I used to get a new game, and needed something to read whilst taking a shit, I'd take it with me. But only if I really liked the game, and had nothing else to read.

Manuals are a waste and just drive up the cost. There isn't any with movies, no reason to have them with games. Unless you're a retard who can't figure out a games controls through the option menu, they really aren't needed.

    Never

The one exception is back in ~1991 or 1990 I had a 5-game pack called Sci-Fi and during each game it'd ask you questions that only the manual would have answers to like "What weapon is this pixelated mess?" or "What monster is this blotch of blue and green?" or "What's the barrel diameter on this weapon?"

Pretty awesome games though. Titans Quest. Prophecy. Circuit's Edge (awesome game, was never meant for a 5 year old to play it either) and Deathtrack. Tongue of the Fatman was horrible because I could never figure out how to control the stupid assholes.

Oh, and I might've read the Sim City 2000 and 3000 books, but I'm pretty sure I got the strategy guides and didn't read the instructions. I still have my sc2000 strategy guides in a box on top of my computer desk :o along with manuals from all my old dos games, just like having them around.
