Do you need to know a lot about music to be a DJ?

I am talking about turntable djs.
I love trance, and I've had some ideas about some tunes.
I used to play the piano but didn't go further with it.
Anyways, do you know of any free remixers out there, and also about some free sound packs.

Look, I am not trying to get stuff completely free. I just want something to begin with, and If I like it, I'll purchase stuff.

honestly, with technology today, being a dj is pretty fucking simple..
being a GOOD dj on the other hand, takes practice, paitence and natural skill
with that said.. you have to love music to be a good dj.. maybe not everyone needs this, but all the Dj's i know will say the same thing, you have to be able to feel the music..
I was a club dj for awhile, and it was probably one of the best jobs i ever had..

I love trance. That's what I've been thinking about doing that. What freeware do you recommend for a starting pre-DJ.
