    A minor variance I would expect, but this pretty out of wack, almost 2:1

    Google analytics vs Awstats

    Google 21000 unique

    Awstats 39000 unique

    that is pretty strange...I'd definitely go with analytics reading on it though. Maybe awstats is counting returning visitors as uniques :dunno:

    I've always disliked awstats, I know google is pretty precise MOST of the time.

    I always attributed the difference in google knowing what are bots and what are not. most of the included stat programs are always WAY high. Google seems to only show the REAL actual visitors.

    Well, bots and scrapers don't download the JS file from Google.

    I'd also say that Google is only about 95% accurate since a small % of people have JS disabled, very high settings on Norton/AV program, etc.

    It's best to use both in conjunction with each other, imho. :o

    bet you it has to do with the cookies Google sets vs. those that AWStats set. Keep in mind that the two will almost *never* line up;

    awstats doesn't set cookies.. it reads server logs.

    Yes.. it tracks the data by what your server processes.

    I would say they're both about 95% accurate, though. Awstats does things that analytics can't because it's server-side, and analytics does things that Awstats can't because it's client-side.. to put it simply.

    The link I posted above has a lot more information about it. Good read if you're genuinely curious about it.
