I carry a P220 and a 642 daily. Do you carry to your appointments and brief the doctor when the time comes or do you go unarmed?

ran into this situation today actually, opted to leave it in the car

  3. I shoot with my doctor all the time, so carrying to an appointment is no big deal.

Well I have to drive 16 miles both ways for my doctors appointments so I don't go anywhere else before or after.

I haven't seen a doctor in a considerably long time. I suppose I'm nearing the age where check-ups would start to be a good idea but so far it just hasn't come up.

I carried to the Dentist the other day. Apparently he is an FFL and will not charge me if I require his services :wiggle:

I'd probably just leave it in the car. If I can't feel safe walking from the car to my doctor's office, then I would probably just find a new doctor in a safer location.

Hell, I work in a "gun free zone", and my doctor's office is probably in an even safer part of town than my work is (neither are bad).

In MO its a felony to carry into a hospital building.

Luckily, all my family's docs' practices are in privately owned buildings. No one has ever told me I can't, so I do.

or you make the choice (if you are otherwise a law-abiding citizen) to carry anyways.

this thread reminds me, i had to take my fiance to the emergency room last saturday (nothing major, pain in her ear was bugging her) and on the door at the entrance to the emergency room was a big sticker of a red circle with a red slash through a pistol. I was like, yeah thats really gonna keep firearms out of the emergency room. i don't think that sign would even conform to the law of not allowing to carry concealed on the property because it's not worded how the law says it needs to be

Yeah, if you can't feel safe in Blacksburg Virginia in a college classroom, you should find a new college. What could go bad there!

Depends on the reason for the visit. They nearly shanked me with my own Benchmade after I clipped it to my boxers before an MRI. :o

You have a better chance of getting killed/hurt in an automobile accident on your way to the doctor than you do getting mugged in the parking lot... Now if we all installed a full roll cage in our car, wore an armored fire suit, and a full race helmet everywhere we went in our cars, then our risk of getting hurt/killed in an auto accident would be greatly reduced. However, most of us are willing to take the risk in order to avoid all the inconvenience.

Personally, I would rather carry than not carry. However, if carrying is going to present problems for me, and I deem that my risk level for being attacked is pretty low, then I will just chance it and leave the gun in the car.

I won't say whatever choice you make is wrong either. It isn't up to me to decide what is an acceptable level of risk to your life YOU should be willing to take.

when it comes to gun laws, i'll be a stand up law abiding citizen. with how some (well most) cops are corrupt or just plan an ass around my area, they'll find whatever reason to search you and/or your vehicle. Even if you have no reason to be searched (i.e- did nothing wrong). My cousin has been searched quite a few times with disregard to his maranda (sp?) rights, not being arrested, and with disregard to his lawyer being present.

To be honest. I feel like there's a greater chance of getting searched by a cop than being shot by someone.

hospital might be federal/state law just like post offices. I don't think they need signs.
