Do you call it that? chechen does, and I disagree.
it's part of fight training, therefore it's fighting.
Also, say it's a slated mma fight with normal rules... fight starts with one guy shooting in for takedown, other guy slips in guillotine. Guy being subbed taps. No strikes thrown... Yet it was still a fight.

Well its hard because boxing is considered a fight but there is no grappling allowed. Yet a grappling competition has no blows involved and most people don't consider that a fight.
I think by definition a grappling match is still a fight. But by societal norms, there has to be punching or kicking (or a major lack of rules) involved to be considered a fight. Yet I still don't think most people would call a TKD Sparring match to be fighting so I'm really confused now...
it's not a problem to me if someone calls it that but i wouldn't call it that myself.
I only consider MA with striking to be fighting really
i call it fighting, since you are in competition to defeat the other person by submitting him....a fight doesn't have to include punches & kicks imo.
I've always referred to it as a grappling Competition. Or if I was going to watch highschool wrestling, I was "going to the Meet". Or a Jiu Jitsu Meet. MMA has always been "I'm going to watch the Fight". Same with Boxing.
Just how I've always said it. I do consider it a fight, but that is just not what I call it.
i just call it grappling i guess
lets make like a gracie and roll...
It's a little sketchy. I'd have to go with no. The more rules you add and the more you restrict, the less it should be considered a fight I think.
i never even thought of it as a fight, but when i went to grappler's quest everybody there called it a fight.
its not quite "fighting" but its much much closer than say a game of tennis.
I see both sides of the argument. I've never called it a fight personally but I don't take issue with anyone calling it that
Why aren't you banned from this forum yet? You contribute absolutely nothing TROLL
I don't call it fighting but I think of it as fighting. I just call it grappling, wrestling, BJJ, or whatever it is, because that's more specific and naturally any American would think of a "fight" as either street fight or boxing.
