Given the car was well maintained and a tune up is done when purchased....what is the usual 'going bad' mark in terms of mileage. Im in the market for a 94-99 Maxima and ive found a couple that were around 150k. Is that close to its demise or is it fine for Nissans?
I usually deal with Hondas so i dont know anything much about Nissans :o

my dad had his maxima for 6 years, and had nothing but a constant stream of problems with it the entire time. just got rid of that piece of shit and bought a new TL.

They're generally reliable from what I understand. The VQ engine is supposely strong as hell.

    3rd Gen Max >*max

My '93 has 180k on it and the only thing that has been done is the injectors and the timing belt :coold:

had a check-engine light that was apparently unfixable. He took it to three separate Nissan dealers under warranty, and none of them were able to fix it. They would get it to turn off, usually replace a sensor or two, then it would come back on during the drive home every single time.

Catalytic converter somehow went bad after about 25k miles, had it replaced, it went bad again. Car would have a problem where it would jerk and lerch forward when cold, also unfixable by nissan.

Another problem where it sounded like someone was playing drums in the trunk (weirdest fucking noises I've ever heard), he took it to nissan twice for it and no fix.

It was a 2000 Maxima GLE.

Timing belt every 60k (not sure if the VQ uses a chain) and probably injectors if you get a 3rd gen and they haven't been replaced yet.

I just sold my wifes 1999 Infiniti I30 ( a dressed up Maxmia) and it was a Fantistic car. She bought it with 55,000 on it and we sold it with 135,000 on it. The only thing that i changged on it was the O2 sensor. And i think that it was uneeded. But oh well. That was $100.

The car was great and i would not hesitate to buy another!
