I just got an 07 STi, Obsidian Black Pearl.
It has a lot of swirl marks in it and dust stick to it like glue.
I'm about to Zaino it ( yes I know there are better products but I have it already so :squint:
So anyway, do I need to clay bar it before applying the Zaino?
    :x:

Maybe, a lot of new cars will have either have bonded contaiminants from sitting on the lot, or rail dust from transport. Evaluate the paint and see if it needs it or not.

I would probably clay it. n2 is right, lots of bonded contaminents from transporting new cars.

If the paint isn't absolutely glass smooth after washing you need to clay it. I'd also suggest polishing it to remove the swirls prior to applying Zaino to get the best results. Shiny swirls aren't pretty...

I have a electric polisher thingy, what do I use as compound?
Should I use my random orbit sander air tool with a fluffy thing on instead?
Sorry for the lack of IQ right now, I just had 4 beers and had my brains fucked out  :naughty:

So what will remove the swirls in the paint?
Should I stick with the Zaino I have or get some Poorboys EX(-P?) or some carnouba wax?

why would your 07 have swirls? it should be almost perfect. was it buffed before? do they look like spiderwebs? or do they look like holograms on your car?
