I've been noticing odd color banding in my digital photos that I don't see as strongly on other monitors. Things like photoshop and lightroom gradients produce banding, even if the gradient isn't over a long distance.

I'm thinking I need a new and better monitor, but I'm not sure and don't have A LOT of money to spend.

Is this a good monitor for photo editing? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145

Seems to have good stats and good reviews, but there seems to be questions about the panel's color gamut. Anyone else use this? :dunno:

Damn, I may have to order one of those for that price. Would be nice to increase my work area.

Well, I'm not going to go cheap and end up with an inferior product again. My current Hanns G 19" widescreen was $150 several years back and was a great deal, but it's showing its cheapness now

^ Yeah, i understand your reluctance - however Acer is at least a known brand and the reviews appear to be very good :dunno:

intwesting, thanks. I've heard more good things about Samsung monitors than Acers, although I've never really heard anything bad about either.

    The samsung or the acer?

My concern with any of the cheaper monitors is that they are usually 6-bit panels w/ dithering, not true 8-bit. It's very hard to figure out which ones are true 8-bit, but they're usually expensive.

KILLER resource, thanks! but it looks like there's no way I'm going to be able to afford a monitor with a true 8-bit panel in it :(

I guess I gotta try and find a 6-bit panel that does a good job dithering to mimic 8-bit performance

I love Samsung monitors. I've had 2 monitors and a HDTV - flawless.
