are they worth the cash to buy one to cool your hard drive down? i'm cheap, i was going to get one of those $5 ones on ebay...just wondering if it would actually work well at prolonging my hard drive life.

i'm sure it would only lower the hard drive temp like 2 degrees.

If your case has good ambient airflow then they are worthless for desktop drives. Might still make sense on a 15k rpm server drive though.

I agree with XR250rdr on this one. I'm lucky, my case has two 80mm fans in the front of the case, which take are in (through a filter) and over the hard drives on the way into the center of the case. I have a high speed 92mm fan blowing onto my heatsink, and a big 120mm exhaust fan at the back blowing everything out. Works really well. Just don't put two hard drives in with one directly on top of the other, and you should be ok.

That was another point I meant to make, dont stack the drives right on top of each other either.

i'll have to take pics of my case when i get home. i don't think i have the room for any intake fans, only a couple of exhaust fans.

i'd like my computer to be quiet though

i can't get to the screws at the top of my case to get the front face off of my case because it was riveted in, so i can't really mount an intake properly.

i think i'll just leave it as is.
