i haven't bought a computer from a major manufacturer for a number a years, because i find it cheaper to build my own. i remember getting a family computer and it would have a void sticker on the case.

my sister got an HP and when she went to college, she needed an ethernet card put in it. she had the college computer place do it. they called her about 3 times to see if it was ok to break the sticker.

i don't get it, why would they even put a sticker on a pc, it's so common for people to open it up to upgrade or add something.

None of our old Dell GX150's, 260's, 270's, or 280's do. And none of our IBM 8171-2CU's do. My Dell D600 does not and neither do the Inspirons we have.

My old old old Compaq Presario had one though.

They put the sticker there so they can void the warranty in case somebody fucks up their computer when they try to upgrade it. Why would they want to pay to fix a problem they didn't cause?

Yeah and tey're easy to open, I think it's so you can do all the troubleshooting over the phone with somoene from India for 2 hours before they decide to ship a $5 floppy drive.

I haven't seen any kind of tamper stickers on PC's or laptops for many years.

for the most part, no they don't. hell, HP/compaq and dell tell you to open it up when you are on the phone with their service techs.
