i've been reading about lots of drugs lately and tonight drank some yerba mate (caffeine, theobromine and theophyline) and started peeing alot. did some reading and found that xanthine alkalines are diuretics so that explained that.

question is: since diuretics expel water and sodium through urine is it possible that regular use will lower sodium levels? i eat alot of salt:):x:

your kidneys and renal system as a whole are amazingly complex and, through hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, work extremely efficiently and well. you dont need to, nor should you, fuck with it.

Lets not forget how much potassium you lose by using diuretecs (loop diuretics at least....thiazide diuretics work on the collecting ducts instead of the Loop of Henle and thus don't effect your potassium levels.) This can be far more deadly than a sodium imbalance.

salt makes you retain water (you'll look bloated) and increases your blood pressure
