Looks like Dish has a better deal on hardware (I want an HD/DVR, a DVR and an HD box). Setup w/ DirecTV is like $400 :o I also hear Dish's HD is better, but I am an NFL nut, so the NFL package is alluring :o

    Thoughts?

I've had the Dish HD DVR for a year now, I have no complaints except their latest software update seems kinda crappy but it's nothing major.

I've had both and DTV is far better. They are supposedly adding more HD channels and NFL network is worth it's weight in gold.

Their newer HD-DVR's are not as bad as people say. It's just different than the TiVo's.

edit- and they both blow cable out of the water. No contest.

there's way too much info on it, you just have to dive in and read up. google FTA and pansat receivers and dish network for some forums. It's easy after you've set it up, but it takes a while to figure it all out

I just got dish because we moved where there is no comcast. I gotta say dish hd selection is better and we get a HD-DVR for free unlike comcast paying extra for every small thing. Also got in on the buy 1 year get one free deal they have going if you get it with dsl. overall a great deal at 1/2 the price of comcast (if you factor in the free year)

That sucks, you can still call and see if they can do something similar. The person I talked to at Dish was very understanding and they were very flexible in the packages (even though it was suppose to be for a set package they had in the ad). We were suppose to get two HD-DVRs (with 2 std tvs on them and 2 HDs), but we ended up getting one HD-DVR and two HD turners (without DVR) since we will have three HD tvs and already got Tivos for 2 of those. For some reason Dish won't let you have two HD-DVR turners on the plan and wanted us to buy one for $600. I rather get a tivo at that price.

i have an older dish network dvr reciever set up so i get everything for free(sports/porn/ppv/movie channels). it would cost you a little to get everything set up but its well worth it in the end. only thing that sucks is that my setup isnt hi def :hs:
