Discussion on the GT-R, supra, and RX-7, my theory on why there won't be a new rx-7

I was talking with a friend about this today...

It's the end of the rx7, mazda won't make another one. Why you ask? Well here is my argument.

    Mk3 supra turbo, RX-7 turbo2, skyline r32

    - Similar power levels and performance

MKIV supra, FD RX-7, Skyline r34

    - Similar power and performance

    New skyline GT-R, almost 500hp.

    - Problem?

Yes because the supra will probably end up with similar power, as usual, and where would that leave mazda?

Can they make a streetable 500hp rotary? I don't think they can or will.

And that's why I think there won't be another RX-7.

I know there are a lot of factors and variables involved, but what do you guys think about the future of the rotary as a performance engine?

Why not just do a run of new vehicles, no need to change anything just "fire up the old machines"

if they put 4 turbos on they could make 1000 hp

Why can't 500hp turbo rotary be done?

More displacement and more boost is all it takes, right?

    Maybe I don't understand.

  10. lulz, supra being a hybrid, what a bunch of fags at toyota.

  11. Turbo rotary = failure in the world of engines

Is it possible? I'm imagining that it would get 1/2 the MPG as the toyota and nissan at best if they pulled it off.

new rx-7 with mazdaspeed 6 turbo engine ftw

although that would defeat the whole purpose of calling it an rx-7 :mamoru:

Yeah it would be amusing to have a 12,000rpm NA rotary beast but not in a street car..

That's my point, if mazda is going to make a competitive sports car, I don't see the rotary being involved.

the major and fundamental flaw in the rotary and the reason for its horrible fuel mileage, is severe lack of compression.

the quasi turbine engine solves this, but it's not getting any marketing, unfortunately.

So what do you guys think? Will there be another rx7?

if there will be another one, it will more likely compete with the 350zs, the next gen supra (the base model), the mustangs/camaros/etc, rather than the new GTR

How did it get such good mileage? And how long did it take before it broke down? :mamoru:

Well, I imagine the mileage for the GT-R is going to be terrible.

Think of the mass and the energy needed to move the box of bolts so fast.

So how much worse can the Rotary be?

Rotaries were always pretty poor, so maybe a little worse, but so what?

Sports cars always got shit mileage.

If you're dropping 50-60-70-80k on a sports car, then mileage and displacement taxes don't mean much to you. You've already deceided that you're willing to pay for speed.

Think of what the veyron does when it goes full throttle down the autobahn. It must use the entire fucking tank in ten minutes.
