    $2.50 per linear foot

That means something like a 96" x 42 panaroma" is only $20... HUGE.

Of course I don't have any 40 megapixel images laying around.

    It's also $1.50 for 24" paper and $2.00 for 36 inch paper.

The printer is an HP Designjet 500, so yeah... it's only a 4 color ink printer with a max res of 1200 x 600, but when it's a huge poster that you'll be viewing from far away, it doesn't really matter (so long as it gets the colors right).

I saw a girl printing a 60 x 36 poster on it today and it looked really good. The text looked like shit and was jaggy because she was not using vector based typefaces.

Wow! Cheap enough to experiment trying different things.

  5. Dude I was getting ready to make a thread asking if you're ok. Don't you go to VT?

Yea, we have 2 42" HP's that produce some nice, vivid prints.

My boss is looking to get one of those printers that will print right on a material (like gatorfoam or coroplast) to replace one HP. Saves the laydown dept from having to do it.

They are a custom sign shop. So they'll take anything and try to accommodate anyone. We have an Edge printer for decals/stickers, plotters for vinyl, the HP's for detailed prints and that Jeti for large format banners, vehicles and sign faces. Out back they fabricate anything from custom display cases to internally illuminated signs.

You could walk in and practically ask for anything.

for those of you working at print shops... how much would it cost for someone to print off 5-10 prints at poster size? (maybe 24 or 36" on teh long side)

For just the print w/a glossy or matte overlam I think would be in the $150-250 range. If you want them mounted to black or white gatorfoam with museum mounts add a couple bucks more.
