how do i disable that "feature" where if i play an .mp3 from any location, iTunes automatically adds it to its library. that annoys the fuck out of me and i cant find it in the preferences.

it will add it to the list, but won't copy it if you uncheck the Copy files to iTunes Music Folder.... under preferences and then advanced.

You can also right-click "Get Info" and have Quicktime be associated with all mp3 files. That way they'll just open in QT but iTunes will still play your music.

You can also CTRL-I the file and play it from the Info window.

MF :werd: holy hell this is why I go out of my way and drag an mp3 into VLC because I hate the way iTunes does that. It's really pointless.
