Hmm. I bet Echostar will follow quickly. Oh well, still light years ahead of cable.

I was going to jump on the DirecTV bandwagon, but if they're going to up the Tivo fee, then fuck that idea. :ugh:

    DirecTV is :greddy:

Dish Network is where it's at. I bet you can't even cancel because you're locked into a contract, am I right?

When is that suppose to take in effect? Say if I went with DirecTV w/Tivo, DirecTV can just raise their rates at anytime and I'm not guarenteed $4.99/m for Tivo service through my 1yr agreement, right?

You should be locked in to the rate you agreed to during that contract period, yet after that time period is up your rates will reflect the new pricing change.... I think that is what the case is.

I just got new Dish network hardware, including a whole-house DVR. You record a ahow from one room and it's available in any other room. Kick ass.

Haven't gotten anything on this. Still cheaper than local digital cable, but I'm not big on the bait and switch.

Hoo boy. What's better, XBOX or PS2? DVD+R or -R? Ford or Chevy? Crabs or Herpes?

    I got Dish network because:

    1. No install fee, no equipment fee
    2. The whole-house PVR mentioned above
    3. No contract commitment
    4. They are about $7/mo cheaper than D* for what I wanted
    5. No additional-room fee, with 522 & 544 receivers

But there are situation in which D* is better. Everybody's needs are different, and pricing/promos change weekly. Do some research at:

I switched in October to DirecTV. My signup rates are good until my 1 year contract is up.

Yeah, I switched in Nov, so I guess I'm good for the year. I'd still be happier than our cable here, I'm sure they'll be going up again too soon.

Looks like they're calling the current package total choice plus now, at the higher rate, and they took out a few channels to come up with the new total choice package. Not much missing, but Discovery Home & Leisure, DIY, Fuel, History & Science would be missed. A few music choice channels. Mine seems to be staying the same, due to the new sign up I guess.

Ditto. Even at $42 it beats the shit out of paying $85 a month for the exact same programing on digital cable. And I'm not messing with that stupid ass, craptastic cable box. Man I hated that thing.

PS... What's the skinny on the hacked access cards? How does one even get begin to find one?

Same here...I signed up in Oct/Nov, my rates won't go up for a while. But it still sucks. Nothing to look foward too. If the cable around here wasn't so fucked up I would get that but Cox Cable sucks ass
