So a friend is coming back from Iraq. He took his personal AR15 over there... and he told me to take it when he gets back... I told him I'd pay him for it, he won't accept payment, said he just never wants to see it again... I personally don't give a shit about the notches in the stock, but I would feel horrible about just taking it from him, because he's put like 2500 bucks into it with optics and such....

Should I try to give him some money for it or just accept it?

    Take it,

relieving him of the associations with it is probably priceless....

So how did your friend get to take his personal ar15 to Iraq? I take it he wasn't military.

Is he special forces? Else it's against GO1 to bring personal weapons into theatre. :dunno:

    Edit: or Blackwater or something.

That may be, but no branch whatsoever will let you bring your own PW over there to use as your battle weapon or even a backup weapon, hell the privates can't even have their own knife with a blade longer than 6 inches. And dazed I think everyone has stolen more than their share of MRE's, shipping cases of MRE's home is nothing new at all. Hell, I used to send back cases of MRE's, cases of earplugs, all sorts of shit.

From what I understand there are a few special forces units that let you choose your own pistol; but I think they all still use a common rifle. :dunno:

I highly doubt he was in the US military if he used his AR15. Might've been a PMC or something. I've heard of some guys getting to use personal tweaked out uppers on a mil lower for DMR duty, but never a whole rifle.

In any case, if he's offering you a $2500 rifle that isn't reported stolen or used in a crime, you take it, but it sounds fishy.

This rifle isn't fishy, I shot it before he left. Now if it comes back with a new selector switch on it... :mamoru::mamoru:

It probably just reminds him of stuff that he would rather leave behind :dunno:

to anybody but him, it is just a rifle....

My brother, USMC, took over his personal rifle. I asked him about it and he said all he needed was permission from his CO.

He may have been wrong, but I doubt he would have gone through all the trouble of getting a top-dollar rifle and not using it/checking to see if he could. :dunno:

i dont know that i would want to part with a rifle that likely saved my ass countless times regardless of how many people it killed.

but then again, i have never been in that situation...
