Considering buying a new camera, and am leaning towards the Digital SLR Route.

Anyone else have one of these? Any experience?

I've heard the Digital Rebel from Canon was awesome (I am not a professional photographer, I just like the ability to change the lenses and picture quality is fairly important.) I'm used to film cameras as far as quality goes, and I really like the whole "almost film quality pictures" Anyways, hit me up with some opinions, and I'm not a canon fanboy, so if nikon or someone has something cooler, bring it on!

Once you go SLR... all other cameras become paperweight to you.

2 friends of mine have the Canon Rebel and it's still awesome. The new one (I forget what it's called.. XT or something) is a good bit smaller, and a friend that tried it out said it didn't feel right in his hands.

My mother got a Nikon SLR for this past xmas and it was a bit more expensive than the rebel, and takes pictures of about the same quality.

Seeing their pictures makes me really want one, but I just don't currently have the $600 (minimum) I'd need to get it, not to mention all the accessories and lenses I'd want.
