This came in yesterday, I've kinda tried it out last night. Hopefully this will help me and my wb issues.

I picked it up from ebay for $25 or something.

Credits to Johnny Chimp for pointing me in the right direction.

Not bad. Let us know how it works. I just usually give up on wb and mess w/ it on PP. :o

I shoot raw, but not only in raw.

Besides, I rather do a little more work up front, than more work in PP.

I try to eliminate as much work on the backside as I can.

    Things I try to do..

    1) fix the lighting/wb so the adjustments in camera are minimum
    2) frame it the way I want so there's less cropping, etc. on the back side
    3) auto adjust to a pre-set setting while I'm uploading the pics into Lightroom. That way, they're all uniform in "colors"

So basically, all I have to do is pick the ones I want... do some touch ups... and export them out. :big grin:

Call me lazy, call me whatever... I hate sitting behind a computer editing shit for hours on end. I'd rather be on OT/OTAP jerking off w/ you guys. :mamoru:

    Not lazy, but smarter.

Yeah, it sucks. But it's a tool that I'm going to use often.

so it seems the shot with the 'white' balance is more accurate than the 'grey'??

how do you know which one to use and when?

I thought the gray card was significantly better balanced.

There's a yellowish hue on the one balanced with the white.

    Well, from my understanding.

The white is the "whitest" and the black should be the "blackest" in an image. The gray, is what you want to set your white balance to.

There was a mini thread in my first "model" shoot, where Johnny Chimpo explained it all. I'll find the link, and post it.

I believe you're supposed to set the max black tonal range to the black card, and the max white to the white card.

Ooh that's nice. I just use a huge grey card, but those little ones would be very convenient.

Wouldn't you need the card to fill your entire view to be worthwhile for setting the white balance on the camera? :dunno:

I have Whibal too, I only use it in weird lighting situations. Or in situations where I see that no one in the room is wearing a white or gray shirt (I still do some fine adjustments in post).

well I think most of the people in this thread are talking about taking a grey card pic to change the white balance of other pics later in photoshop using the balance in the grey card pic.

if you want to use the grey card for metering, I think it depends on what metering mode you're using. If you're on a spot metering mode, you just have to cover the spot with the grey card, etc..

    I think.:o

I suppose that would work... but like many have said, "Try to get it on the camera first," right?

From what I've read, different cameras, take their white balance readings differently(pretty obvious don't you think?). Since I'm still experimenting with the card, I'm going to start off with center metering and go from there.

A little preparation up front goes a long way in PP.
