So bought an 89 Toyota PU. Dropped a new engine in and the thing has no power. Take it to a local Toyota dealer and they tell me the timing chain was installed improperly.

They say there are 3 settings:
    1. Low Power, Low Fuel Use - European uses
    2. Mid Power, Mid Fuel Use - USA
    3. High Power, High Fuel Use - No one uses

The place that sold me engine says that the dealership has no idea what they are talking about and the timing chain can only be put on 1 way.

Has anyone ever heard of this.

Cliffs: new engine...dealer says 3 timing chain settings, enigne place says they are crazy???

Advancing the timing can have different effects on the motor - and it can also have bad effects on the motor. If you're unsure of what the dealer has told you, call another Toyota dealer and ask them for a second opinion.
