i don't see why an extra $1000 would be that big of a hurdle. It would pay for itself PDQ. Though thats probably too far sighted for the average consumer.

I'd take a diesel over a hybrid anyday

Another big hurdle, how would they offer these diesels at a profit?

The Astra itself will be sold at a loss no matter how many GM moves.

IIRC correctly, most of GM's cars sold/sell for a loss. I think its only the very new cars that don't, ie cuts etc only made the cobalt profitable on a per car basis a year or so ago

:ugh: nice input. If a car has diesel i must most definitly suck balls. Gm makes good cars now, the public opinion is the problem.

2002 called, they need you to leave so they can lock up.

Seriously, GM's quality, style and saftey have all improved dramatically across the board the last couple years. 5 years ago I would have agreed with you though, but now they're just as good as anything else you can get in the same class & price range.

They could say "fuck California" and sell it in 49 states and the cost would not be $1000 more anymore.

They'd rather spend it renovating shit-old hot rods with pushrod Chevy small-blocks anyway. That way they can get around CARB regulations by calling them "kit-cars" and "antiques".

Fuck California. Let the rest of us get good gas mileage already. The 1.9TDI version of my Passat gets nearly 60mpg at highway speeds, except it might be nice if I could get that kind of MPG in a car that doesn't cost a fortune to maintain.
