Went into various pawn and gun stores looking for the Saiga I wanted. I knew it was a longshot but there was actually one place that had the exact one I was looking for.

Saiga Sporter rifle in 7.62x39, for only 550$ The dude's excuse was "you can't find them no more." Then he lowered the price to 425 which was still way too high. I don't see how these people can stay in business. :ugh:

I guess I am going to have to try my luck at some gun shows coming up and if I don't find one by the end of this month I will have to order from Buds. :( I am looking for one in the ~350 range. Am I being too optimistic?:o

you shouldve just paid the 425 because they are getting rare.

my local shop sells the saiga12s for 325 cash, but they cant keep them in stock.

:wtc: i've been waiting for 1 for 6months, but the next 1 that comes in is mine

A couple were alright. There was one that was pretty shady looking and I felt weird just going in there. They were selling hi-points. First tiime I ever seen one in person and it looked pretty shitty.

I never shop at pawn shops either. I was just bored as fuck and decided "what the hell".

    Oh, and they are OVERPRICED.

It's fucking crazy. The ONLY halfway decent deal I found was one of those MP5 replicas in 22lr with the barrel shroud silencer for 499.

$499 is the MSRP on the GSG-5 and you'll be hard pressed to find one cheaper. Most places are charging $529 and up

Pawn shops can be decent places to find guns, just takes a bit of knowledge and being a semi regular.

First off, you have to find which shops have good prices. Most shops make bank off the pawn, not the resell. The smart owners know this. Make a habit of hitting the pawn shops every couple weeks. The ones with the same stuff get knocked off the list, those that seem to move stuff quickly are the best.
Second being a regular helps. If the shop has dealt with you repeatly they are more likely to cut you a deal, let you know something may be on the shelf soon, etc.
Third you have to know how to judge a guns condition, know what it may take to fix it, know problem areas. They typically won't help you and the return policy is usually "no". However knowing how to get rid of rust spots or the difference between rifling problems and lead buildup can give you an edge on negotiations.
Fourth, no one pays the price on the sticker. Tools and stuff offer 50%, guns are usually 60-75%. It helps to be able to point out "problems" like rust spots, stock dings, bad serial number ranges. Exaggeration abilities can help this greatly.
Finally you have to know the area and accept what will be there. You will not find a high end AR-15 or a custom 1911. People don't pawn this stuff. Most pawn shops will have low to mid end pistols, pump and semi shotguns, a couple old double barrels, bolt actions, .22s, and a couple other various things. You may find an AR or AK, especially in military towns. Oh, and the best time for rifles (and most other things) is about mid Jan to late feb. This is when the Christmas pawns and the now unneeded hunting rifles will flood the stores.

I got lucky with my pawn shop experience. Found a G19C w/ 3 mags for $440. Supposedly only had ~100 rounds thru it.
