Ok, so I did the taping of the two pins on the SB-800 to allow the D70s to shoot at faster speeds with a flash. I was working LOVELY until my goddamn mirror went up and now doesn't go down until I click the shutter again. It gives me an error every time and doesn't take anything. I'm not going as crazy because I was already planning on getting the D90 as soon as it comes out, but still, this wasn't the way I wanted to part with my baby.

Anyway, is it because of the flash "mod" that I fucked it up or do you think my camera just had it coming: it had well over 50K clicks on it.

Also, FP sync is completely safe to use on a D80, right? I have an Sb-800 and an Sb-600 and I was playing with it but I'm not completely sure if its absolutely safe to use all the time. Any input?

Time to buy a new camera. Why not a D300 instead of the D90?

Student budget and I thought as far as picture quality the D90=D300 since they share the same sensor (like the 80 and 200).

Same sensor, different camera, more features. For $300 more, why not? :dunno:

Looks like a $600 difference at BH

    D300: 1614
    D90: 1000

I mean if I want something larger for a weekend gig or something I can always rent the MarkIII Canons from school so I think maybe for now the D90 might be enough.

    lol...I wish.

After a lot of debating in my head and talking with a few photographers I'm actually gonna go ahead and get into some debt for the first time in my life. I decided that I'm not longer doing this as just a hobby (I got my associates in Photo and now I'm attending F.I.T. for my bachelor's), and it's time to get gear that will be with me for some time. I'm gonna order the D700 at the end of this month and start paying it off :noes: My D70s did me good the 2.5 years I had it but it's time to step it up.

Have you taken the battery out for a while, recharged it (or replaced with a completely recharged unit) then put it back in? Be sure to leave the battery out for a while to let some of the inside goodies (capacitors n such) discharge too.

Tried the 2 button reset? (hold both green dots down)

If those dont work you can do what I did and move the lever back and forth that connects to the lens that closes the aperture. Does that make sense? Its the lever that sticks out of the body right near the mounting ring. Just move it back and forth a few times. Mine felt a little stiff, probably from dust build up or whatever... but I never had the problem again after that.

Mine was sporadic though, once every 5 shots or so.. not every shot.

Supposedly it's a pretty common problem on the D70s.. mine was on a D70 with almost 100K actuations.

Awesome. I just got home from school so I took out the battery, hopefully that'll solve it. I'll try to the other things too...I know which lever you're talking about, I was playing with it when it first happened. I'm def. getting the D700 but if I can have the D70 as a back up without paying to fix it, why not.

Yeah, reseting, cleaning and reformatting didn't seem to work. But:
D700: "Expected Delivery Date: Monday September 8, 2008."

From BH ^^^^ :noes::noes::noes: I live on Long Island so it's usually quicker than what they say, hopefully it'll be here by Saturday. I don't think I've ever been this excited. I'm finally in debt now but I can justify it so it's all good.

My friend also said that she'd pay for my D70s to be fixed if I let her borrow it for some time. I'm not using it so as long as it's not too much, I'll let her use it, if not I'll pay for half of it or something:coolugh:

Yup, thats pretty much it. I wasn't looking at it as an investment, which I should have from the beginning. I would have been able to pay for the D90 all at once but it would have left me wanting more at this stage in my education.
