    UPDATE: PAGE 2

Doing this for some good friends of mine who are getting engaged. Being my first time, this was just a practice run to hopefully hone my skills.

Because I was familiar with the area, I revisited The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA. I snapped over 250 pics, but these are the ones I like most.

All taken with a borrowed 85mm 1.8, thanks to 1995Blue240sx.

Another thing I had forgot to mention, was that these photos were taken at around 6:30pm. Heavy overcast, but this worked in my favor. No harsh shadows for the win.

    Thanks for commenting.

Distraction in 6 would be? The pole?

9, I feel the guy has a lot of emotions showing. Almost as if he has cold feet. I told them, that I'm not there, and to look past me. Which is why they're not always paying attention.

As far as the street clothes, the three of us had just gotten off of work. The guy works or is contracted out to/for Chevron. The girl is a manager at store mall, and I, as some of you know work on cars all day.

This was an informal shoot, to basically see what the three of us can do.

I would have to say, this was probably the most fun I've had since I've started photography. I can only imagine it's only going to get a lot better from here on.

Yeah, same. But oddly enough, I didn't feel that way today.

Even after pointing it out, it doesn't bother me. Strange.

    :h5:

    Thanks

How do you feel about the cross walk button in #6?

it's definitely distracting. it's in the middle of the frame. it's bright yellow. it's near focus.

also, the pole runs about through the middle of the frame, and since there's nothing especially interesting on the right side of it, the yellow crosswalk button draws attention for the whole right side.

you could try to photoshop it out, but I'm not sure it'll me worth the trouble.. without the crosswalk button there the pole may prove to be an equal distraction

I don't especially mind it, though..

maybe just crop the left side to get a full shot of their gesture and then add that to the album.. maybe they'll like the pic with the crosswalk button.. or maybe they'll prefer the crop of just them. no way to tell unless they see it

Make sense. I'll keep it in mind, and will make it less distracting.

Thanks guys, gotta get some z's before work.

I like number 10, but all of them are missing a "pop." They all seem dull, due to the overcast and dark sky..

I like 9, 10, 13. I dont really feel like there is a connection with them in the rest of the pics. I dont like the fact he is wearing a hat :hs: How did they like the pics?

Lens looked like it did a pretty good job. You should buy your own nga

    Thanks :)

They're all straight off camera except for a few. Because I just wanted a quick "contact sheet", to show, I figured I'd let them pick which one they wanted. Once they find out which ones they like, I'll edit them to make them "p op" more.

You guys do have a point, which I do agree with. But I think the other 50% of the romanticism comes from their dress attire. Some of the pics show that this is more of a high school courtship than an engagement. We're going to have the next session at the beach.

The hat bugs me too, in fact I don't think I've ever seen him not wearing one.

The lens is pretty nice. I like how fast it focuses. I told my friend how I dropped his 100mm macro, and he didn't seem upset at all. I'm not sure if he cares for me to buy him a replacement, or what. I need to deal with that first :o.

I didn't charge them. I did mention a larger CF card, but I said just kidding :o

If anything, I may need a reflector.

I have a borrowed 85mm 1.8, which is needed back by tomorrow. I had my 70-200 2.8, and tripod in the car... but because of the location we were at, I didn't feel that I had a big need for it.

    Thanks for doing that

Although it is distracting, the "push to walk" adds "contrast"(it breaks the pattern of just a pole). I know it is distracting to a lot of you, but I like it. Again, I'll see what they say about it, and then I'll proceed to make adjustments.

I wasn't sure it would look a whole lot better without the crosswalk sign+button.. but it does look a WHOLE lot better.
