any exercises in particular that will specifically hit that area?

I feel like my quads are growing more in the upper area and my hips are getting thicker, but more towards the knee they aren't growing much...

Only quad-intensive lifts I do are squats and leg press, and maybe DL counts a little bit.

i notice it looks like a lot of BBers get the teardrop and rest of the lower area to look just as thick, or at least close to it, as the upper thigh.

I havent seen anything that would target a specific area, seems to me just get the entire quad bigger, and they will show.. Somewhat like the upper/inner area of the chest.

Leg extensions with feet angled outward wil put more focus on the teardrop. If you are squatting deep with a close stance, it should already be growing though.

Leg Extensions will help you define your quads, but they aren't so much a mass builder. Add them to your routine.

Make sure to use lighter weight and really squeeze at the end. Each rep should last about 2-3 seconds.

c'mon man you really need to worry about gaining muscle mass before you start targeting a 2x2 section of your body. Correct me if I'm wrong but you font even squat 300 yet. Stop the madness.

I think that bulgarian split squat also work that region pretty well depending on how you do them.

Double contraction method I think. Thib uses it for a lot of stuff and he was also the one suggesting the split squat. I recall that there was something in regards to the knee not being above the feet and not sitting back but I'm not that certain about that.

What does a wide stance have to do with the quads?

yes, make sure you're developing that specific muscular locality to be proportionate to your overall massive build.
