so i finally got around to detailing the 540i since i bought it in december....the previous owner did a pretty good job of upkeeping so there wasn't much needed in the way of paint correction....

there were some minor swirls on the hood/trunk/roof so i got those out...

    here's the process...

1 - washed with meguiars car wash
2 - used optimum compound on the hood/trunk/roof with a light cutting pad...with my PC on 2000 - buffed with microfiber towel..
3 - applied a coat of Jeff's Werkstatt Prime with a finishing pad with my PC on 1500.
4 - let the above dry for about 45 mins then buffed with microfiber towel
5 - applied a coat of Jeff's Werkstatt Acrylic Jett by hand to entire car and wheels.
6 - let the above dry for about 45 mins and then buffed with a microfiber towel.
7 - windex on the all the windows.
8 - quick detailer on a rag on the trim (missed a few spots on some trim got it after i took the pics)
9 - applied meguiars endurance tire shine gel to the tires...
10 - drove out to the back of my neighborhood and took pics.
11 - whore pics of my freshly detailed car FTW!

Entire process took me around 4 hrs....started at 7 this morning was done by 11:30....

now after i wash it next time i'll follow up with an application of Jeff's Werkstatt Acrylic Jett Trigger (spray wax) and since by then i'll have my water softener installed...i won't have to worry about water spotting!

    turned out nice!

    enjoy...

The car came out great! Nice work.

One correction, Werkstatt Jett Trigger is a sealant not a wax (though performs a similar function). ;) I love the stuff, but hate that it needs to cure 12 hrs before I can apply wax to it.

whats the difference between sealant and wax?

Is it necessary for me to top the jett with a wax?

You don't need to top it if don't want to. Some don't like the look of sealants but damn.......that's nice there!

You did an awesome job sir!

sterling grey...it was only offered in 02 and 03 on the e39 5 series.

it is normally a 7 series color.

it was also offered on the x5 in those yrs too.....but u don't see too many ni this color

whats even more rare is the 540i sport wagon from 03 in this same color combo (sterling grey/black interior)

bmw only brought under 2000 540i sports in 03 to the states....

Did I read that right?? You let your AJ Trigger cure for 45 minutes before buffing?? If so, I might try that next time I do my truck. Doing it according to the directions is leaving a lot of halos that are a bitch to get out.

    what yr m5? :)

i was toying with the idea of trading this in for an m5.....a few months back. but i got such a good deal on this car and its soo damn clean and such low mileage that its not worth it :)

next car will be e60 m5!

stay tuned for info...i'll have a full thread with details in the next couple days.
So far i've only done wash/clay/engine and interior cleaning...still got the optimum compound/polish/optiseal to do :naughty:

This BMW jet black is gonna be nuts when i'm done :x:

Hmmm...I didn't think it was good to leave AJ Trigger on for too long. I read their website and it say pretty much to spray and wipe (similar to Opti-Seal). http://www.jeffswerkstatt.com/acrylic-jett-trigger.php I let it cure for 12-24 hours before I apply wax over it. I like the look that the Prime/Jett combo gives the car, but once I put Optimum Car Wax on top of it, the paint becomes really glossy.

At the end of the day, I think it just comes down to personal preference. I try different things on my cars every quarter, to see if I can improve upon last detail. YMMV.
