first off MUCH props to scottwax and all you other professional detailers out there... this is hard ass work (specially on a car that needs alot of attention like this one did) so my hats off to you guys :)

    now the pics

if you remember i posted these the other day my wife's jetta.

this thing is a 2000 and she bought it new in oct of 99 never really handwashed it she'd normally just take it to a local car wash shop and have them wash it and maybe wax it once in a while...(they did an okay job)

    here's what i used.
washed the car with meguiars auto shampoo/conditioner (bought a big gallon of it from costco)
then on the hood at first i used the orange light cutting pad and the PC at approx 4 with optimum HYPER compound to see how it would take out the scratches...but it didn't take all of it out so i stepped up to the yellow medium cutting pad and that worked alot better.

I ended up compounding the entire car (As it was reallly bad) the areas that were worse than the others i spent a bit more time and with the PC at approx 4-5....

after that i wiped the car down and polished it using the optimum polish....

then i simply used the optimum spray wax....

FOR NOW i'm satisfied with the results. IT is a HUGE improvement over before and i'm learning alot. there are still some fine scratches left...

now the pics. oh and i was runnin out of day light so at the time i took these pics i didn't dress the tires/clean the windows etc etc...i ended up doing that after wards...and the wheels wells .... well i'll clean them properly next time i wash the car :)

NOW a few questions as you can see i still have some fine scratches (Which i couldn't put my finger nail thru) so they should be able to be removed, would the optimum compound remove that???

also, how do i get rid of the specs that the camera shows up in CERTAIN shots...??? claybar??

should i have gone over the entire car with the optimum compound and light cutting pad after using the optimum HYPER COMPOUND and medium cutting pad???

i'm still learning so PLEASE feel free to post tips/trick/comments

Nice job, man! I heard VW's have hard paint to work with, so you have your work cut out. I like the fact that you took it upon yourself to try some of the advice that you've read on your own. It's hard work and you should be proud of the progress you've made! The wife should be happy!

    VW paint = bitch.

    Really nice job! :)

Not sure if you needed an intermediate step of OC or not, need to see some full sun pics. However, I have found on harder paints, Hyper Compound tends to finish down pretty close to LSP ready so I'd say OP should have been enough. You may have slightly reduced any remaining defects a bit more if you'd used OC though.

Either those white specs are stone chip which claying won't help or they are some sort of overspray or fallout that claying should remove.

i think what i'm going to do in a few months now (probably in end of sept -october)

is clay the entire car and go over it again just with the optimum compound...

hopefully the clay will remove the white specs...(some are stone chips) and the OC will help remove any other defects OR at least lessen them....

thanks for all the advice and compliments....:)
