after surfing around for a while, got hit with some spyware overlaping my desktop a web page saying "you cpu might be infected blah blah," no problem i thought, ran spybot/adaware to take care of it but was still stuck with it. hit right click-view source and erased the html but didnt work. hit right click-properties, found that it was desktop.html. went to were ti was (c:/windows/desktop.html) delted it and was left with a white/gray alternating colors background. i know my desktop/wallpaper is still there because if i scroll all the way to the top, i can right click-properties for my desktop and not this html page. how can i get rid of this? its basically set up like this: icons over html page over wallapaper/desktop.

i also cant surf through ie to webpages unless i hit the 'detect network settings' link after it doesnt load, then it still load in a "safe mode" style web page. internet is working fine, i can still use winamp radio/trillian type of programs that access the web, and i am currently posting from my bro's comp (which we are both routed on the same modem).

this sucks, i hella dont want to sys restore or reformat for some spyware. i get hit the one time i didnt load peer guardian :uh:

    thanx all for any help

Use Firefox. For a spyware removing program, I recommend Spyware Doctor because it picks up stuff Spybot or Ad-aware will miss.

A friend of mine had that on her computer from her hubby surfing porn :mamoru:

Spyware and Adaware didn't fix it, I had to manually clean it through the registry. But one easy way to get it off your desktop is to turn off your active desktop. When you go into desktop properties, you have the option to "view as web page". That's why that page is on there.

For those barking at him to use another browser, it's his active desktop that's infected too. Using another browser isn't going to help him in that case. :uh:

It sounds like he's on windows 98/ME too. There's another problem.
