Gosh some of them are just plain dumb/bizarre if you just stop and think about it for a second, instead of quickly glance by. People are all dressed up in suits and blazers and what not in the middle of the desert/prairie, or while boating. While boating. And the Dolce Gabbana ones, I can never remember what the models were actually wearing because all I remember from the ads are a bunch of men crammed into a small space doing strange poses and stuff that don't make any sense.

What are some designer ads in magazines you find ridiculous?

Well what do you feel when you look at designer ads then? Do you find all of them attractive?

its marketing. the idea is to evoke a mood to go along with the product. otherwise its just a catalog :dunno:

I agree. But when you see a guy clad in suit standing in the middle of the desert, what kind of mood do you think the designer is trying to, uh, convey?

Also, people, I am not asking why ads are a certain way. I am asking if there are some you've seen that you thought were dumb, and just describe them to me 'cause I'm curious to know. I don't need a lecture on why ads don't have to make common sense!

D&G ads made me want to do marketing

All of it evokes a sense of luxury. Luxurious locations, luxurious garments.

Can you link to some images of the good ones? I disliked most that I've seen. If I google "d&G ads" for images, I hated 2/3 of all the ad images on the first page. Most of the men aren't even wearing the cloths, and they are usually a lot of model crammed up and do exaggerated strange poses or looking spaced out.

I enjoyed most Lacoste's ads on the other hand. Also Burberry and Polo.

lacoste's ads? a group of models jumping in the air, every single time? it bores me.

I love new Burberry ads since around 2006/2007

No the jumping ones bore me. I like the non-jumping ones.

Is there no ads that just strike you as being absolutely atrocious though? 'Cause that's kind of the topic here...what you hated not what you liked.

Also, I obviously don't look at the ads for mens clothes, so that's not really a relevant factor. But, I've always loved the D&G ads for the small details...

I used to subscribe to GQ, so I looked at the ads past the point of them delivering the "mood", sigh. I can appreciate the luxurious motif of a wet Luis Vuitton bag casually thrown onto a small canoe while the dude in a blazer gets off of it to step onto the sand...on some tropical island...I appreciate the mood a lot, but after staring at it for a minutes you just kind of like think wait a minutes...that's kind of ridiculous. Unfortunately that happens more on D&G ads in my exprience more than others.

but that's the thing about D&G ads. For me, for literally years now, they've always delivered the mood. It's a few seconds of poring over it and really feeling it. Every time, and that's what I love.

Because so many others just don't achieve that. Like, the versace spring ads, I just don't get the same feeling from.

With the exception of maybe the full shot. But even still, it doesn't give me any kind of a desire, except for maybe to have Gisele's legs. Which is nothing to do with the brand of Versace.

You know the thing is I don't think the ones she linked here are that bad. There are a lot of bad ones...I guess most of them on the men's side.

If ads are meant to deliver moods, most of the D&G ads (not the ones above) tell me this: a D&G man is in such good shape, he doesn't actually need to be wearing any D&G clothes. :mamoru:
