I am thinking of driving from DE to california to stay with family and get a job out there. I feel like I have nothing here and want to start fresh. I just got out of a year long relationship and lost my job when I was already suffering severe depression. I started lexapro this week and think a new environment will help me recover. I feel like if I stay here I will never improve. Also I return to school at the end of January back east but think I just need to get away right now....

I've only drive across i think it was 4 states (from Florida to North Carolina) before. And even so I was with 3 other people in the car. We had a blast! It took us like 2 days, it was supposed to be a 12 hr drive but we took a lot of stops and it was raining really bad, plus we got back traffic though W. Palm Beach in FL. But, we bonded a lot and had an overall good trip :).
    Go for it!

I did something similar, I struck out and did work all over the country in a totally new field. It was a very freeing experience. I am back doing what I did, but I have a new perspective and its a totally new ball game.

When you get into depression its usually because you have entered a rut and limited yourself in some form or another. The best thing to do is wipe the slate clean. And forge a new path, just try not to repeat the past.

Are you the type of person that can easily go out to a bar and meet people? If you can't, doing something like that might isolate you even further. Just something to think about.

I would agree, but it does seem he has some ideas in mind about going out to meet people.

You are on OT, this place is great for meeting people  I just got back from a trip out to LA and san diego and met lots of great OTers there, some of the nicest people I've ever met. If you are going to either of those cities then start posting in the socal crew thread and get to know everyone. They will be glad to take you out and show you around. I know there are lots of SF OTers too if you are going there.

good luck dude, it'll be a good experience. It sucks you won't be doing it with friends, but don't let that stop you from having a good time. Google something along the way you always wanted to see or do. Make it some moments to remember.
