    Howdy gents,
I don't know if experience with the 6850 is needed to help me out, but check this:
The 6800 and 6850 have different layouts, but essentially the same motherboard.
I'm pretty sure of this, since I switched the motherboards, and the 6800, with the newer 6850 mobo worked fine, no fuss, no muss.
now the 6850, with the 6800 mobo, is not quite as happy. It starts up just the same, but since the 6800 mobo still thinks it is in a 6800, it thinks its missing 2 fans.
Now for the actual question: how to make the 6800 mobo realize its in a 6850, and its not missing any fans? I took the latest bios for the 6850 and updated the mobo, but it still thinks its a 6800, just with a new bios.
i know i probably won't get an answer, but never hurts to try.
    Thanks guys :wiggle:

you can't make it "think" it's a different motherboard. I would wire a resistor to the fan header so that it thinks a fan is there.

it doesn't need to think its a different mobo, they're exactly the same. it needs to realize its in a 6850 instead of a 6800. but thanks for replying at all.
