if its out of warranty you are better off just buying a new cpu and mobo

it will cost less than trying to get a dell part and it will bring your machine into 2008, or at least 2007

you could easily do it for under $120

thats true, but he'd have to buy a new copy of windows also.

you can probably find a replacement identical mobo on ebay. just be sure its the right one, becuase sometimes they have different mobos for th same model, depending on the proccessor you went with or shit like that.

If I wanted to go this route, can you give me some ideas of what parts I'm looking for?

If you do a repair install on your windows with a retail xp disc after you do the upgrade it will work fine

you can find torrents on the internets with images of retail xp discs that havent been cracked or anything (so they are legal)

If you wanted to go with AMD you could get this 2.4 Brisbane

and I picked this mobo since it has 2 IDE ports for 4 devices since I figured you probably have old drives you want to reuse

or if you wanted to go with Intel things get a little pricier
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116052

    with possibly this mobo

If you go with the AMD combo you have money left over to buy some new RAM
