I need to find out whether these ac adaptors are interchangeable. I currently have inspiron 9200 but I want to find out if I can use my ac adaptor from my old 8600. here are the specs from dell's website

    9200
    AC Adapter:
Bullet Input voltage: 90 to 264 VAC
    Bullet Input current (maximum): 1.7A
Bullet Output current: 4.5A max at 4-second pulse, 3.5A continuous
    Bullet Output power: 90W standard
    Bullet Dimensions (H x W x D): 1.1-inch (28mm) x 2.3-inch (59mm) x 5.25-inch (134mm)
Bullet Weight (with cables): 0.9 lbs. (0.4 kg)

    8600
    AC Adapter:
Bullet Input voltage: 100 to 240 VAC
Bullet Input current (maximum): 1.5A at 90 VAC, full load
Bullet Output current: 4.62A max. at 4-second pulse, 3.5A continuous
    Bullet Output power: 65W standard
    Bullet Dimensions (H x W x D): 1.1-inch (28mm) x 2.3-inch (59mm) x 5.25-inch (134mm)
Bullet Weight (with cables): 0.9 lbs. (0.4 kg)

the connectors are the same - however - from my knowledge (i am by no means a professonal - but am a college student with a good amount of knowledge of electrical stuff)

I would say technically it could work - only differances - is that should the 8600 adapter get a spike of juice - and send 4.62 amps to your 9200 it could surge the circuit and fry it. unlikely but possible.

if you did buy it - it looks like it would fit in the same slot

only issue: the power output of the 9200 is higher than the 8600 - so your 9200 would take longer to charge.

I'd double check with Dell and if you need to purchase another one, check out some sites like gotapex.com or similar ones for coupons on Dell accessories.

You MAY be able to use it, but it will be at a reduction of either charging or performance. The 8600 is only 64W, while the 9200 is 90W. Different Dell laptops handle it differently. My 8200 down-clocks the processor, others will change how the batteries are charged.
