I was just looking on ebay and it looks like you can get the dell for ~850 bucks, but the cinema displays are going for 1200.

Don't they use the same lcd, just have a different exterior?

I mean I like the apple style and it would match my PB perfectly... but I can't justify paying an extra 400 bucks or so just to get the titanium look.

Anyone have the Dell? Comments about it or anything?

You answered your own question, i'm having the same dilemna as you too. They are exactly the same save for a different amount of usb ports/connectors and the exterior design. I would really like to buy a cinema display because of how fucking sexy they are, but when i can get the same one except uglier for ~$400, i don't know if my will power can hold out until i have enough money to buy a 20" cinema display.

I have the 23" Apple display and yea it looks great with the G5.

They do use the same Samsung LCD part #. But, and this is really only what I've heard from OT, is that you run a good risk of getting dead pixels or some light bleed from the edge of screen. Back when people were buying them by the handfuls because of the rebates they were complaining that if you do get a dead pixel Dell will only exchange it if there are 6 or more. And I forget the review I read that mentioned the light bleed.

I guess w/Apple you're paying for that extra quality control. Dunno, read some reviews.

The 20"'s are the same panel. The 2405 and Apple 23" are not.

also, I hear the 2405 has a lot more "features" than the 23" apple will have. The 2405fpw is damn near HD-ready, and has a lot of inputs that the apple doesn't. I know it's ugly but it's probably the obvious choice.

Dell is the way to go. I've gone with both the 20 and the 24 and didn't look back. IF Apple offered the same price then I would have went with the Apple, but the Dell case isn't that bad looking either and the extra inputs / outputs are nice.

I think I'm making the same call myself. Gonna retire my 12" g3 ibook the next time it goes out (logic board has failed 3 separate times now) and I'm ready to move on to a 12" powerbook when the money starts flowing again.

nope not a cent. there was a bad patch of ibooks that are covered under the faulty logic board program.
