defrag software for linux

  1. i have a dual os system - win98se and mandrake linux 9.0.

    and i am curious, is a defrag system needed for linux - and if so what it is called and does it come with the iso's of mandrake 9.0 u download from their site. and if not where would i get it. and is it easy to use.

    you really don't need to defrag ext2 and ext3 because they mostly take care of it themselves. the log and spool files are the only problem and that is why you should put /var on its own partition

    if you have ext2 and really want to, you can use this:

    ftp://ftp.uk.linux.org/pub/linux/sct/defrag/
