Going to order a dedicated server in Europe tonight.

    Company I'm going with: leaseweb.com

Quad core, 2gb ram, 4tb bandwidth on 100mbit.
    about $120/mo.

The same setup at theplanet or softlayer costs about $50 more.

Launching my multiplayer game this week.

2 Softlayer servers (west, east coast)
    1 Theplanet server (backup, texas)
    1 Leaseweb server (europe)

It's a flash game called Hovernauts

    www.hovernauts.com

It's unique because it's real-time multiplayer. Most flash multiplayer games today are turn based. There are a few real-time ones out there, but not enough.

It's meant to be team based 8v8, but if you just need someone else to shoot at let me know and I'll hop in a game :)

    What do you mean?

We are actively pursuing sponsorships with big game portals. But there has been some shakiness about that because portals are a bit hesitant to depend on our servers (vs. the simple act of hosting a single player .swf file on their own server). Plus we can't do a standard lump sum sponsorship since our game has significant reoccurring costs.

If that all falls through, we're going to say screw it and figure out how to monetize this thing ourselves.

Oh and I decided not to go with leaseweb because they had some shakey reviews. They also required a minimum 3 month payment block.

I'm going with Hetzner.de Servers are awesomely priced (pentium i7 /8gb for 50 euros!) and have a flexible bandwidth structure. Their setup fees are a bit high but I believe it's worth it for the better reviews I've been seeing online.

Also, I just learned that VAT does not apply to non europeans. 20% discount!

If you want really cheap servers you've got Kimsufi/OVH. I only use them for stuff I don't want on our network.

Can't complain for the price... I pay £20 (~$32) a month for a P4 3Ghz with HT and 1GB of RAM and just use that for my personal 'off-network' stuff. :o

Why would you need his address if you too are a non-european?

I just checked and they're charging an extra % for the VAT, I thought he meant he was in europe and was not being charged with the vat, I should comprehend what I read before replying.

Just did a quick google search for Serverloft Review. Same thing with Leaseweb. Just a lot of slightly negative reviews which made me nervous.

In the end Hetzner was not only the cheapest for great hardware but also the one with the least negativity. Only downside is the setup cost.

Depends on the site. For example, Leaseweb's prices are all pre-VAT.

Hetzner's prices all have VAT included so it's like 20% off what you see
