I have a Surefire Z2 Combat Light which I want to get the 6 or 9 Volt TurboHead kit with battery expansion and then mount if onto a real FSP mount (no more ghetto-rig mounts :mamoru: )

    SO this:

Or this (with battery extension tube):

Then it would be a matter of picking up the switch tail-cap and tape switch from a buddy of mine for cheap and I think I would have a good weapon mounted light. I would be using it for home defense (target identification), and for shooting at night at ranges beyond the Z2s unmodified capabilities. (its kills me when I see people put small 60-100 lumen lights on their rifles when trying to shoot out past 50 yards :mamoru:)

So I would modify the Z2 to look something like the light here on the left:

What do you guys think? Is this going through way too much work, or would I be better suited to just go out and get an M3 Turbo Millennium and call it a day? A local shop is selling one for $245 OTD. Dunno if I should snag it while I have the chance.

I have enough flashlights, and lumens arent everything with xeon bulbs like the one you posted the spread is going to be very far. In fact my SuperTac(120lumen) goes farther than my TL3(210lumen)

But my TL3 will light up a room like the power of christ. I would look at LEDs for long range vs xeon

Its funny that you just mentioned that, because I just replaced me old E2D Xenon with an E2D LED Defender and it is a NIGHT and DAY difference between the two as far as spread vs/brightness. Plus it has the low lumen output that has a claimed 72 hour run time which is  for an EDC light.

So as far as an LED setup, what would be a good SF unit to look for? I wouldnt mind going with another company, but I am a big fan of SF. If there is another good reliable unit from another company that is more economical, I would be willing to give it a look.

I pretty much only use Streamlight, Supertac holds the tightest center out off all my flashlights

Bottom Left is my TL3(240lumen), Bottom Right is my SuperTac(135lumen), Top is my Scorpion(80lumen?)

Also in a survival situation Xenon bulbs blow fairly fast. Where LED's you just have to worry about batteries.

I just bought mine from Amazon

Same thing goes for lasers, either green or ir. Red laser just doesn't have en a long enough wavelength

That's why I replaced my Xenon SF Executive 2 Defender with an E2D LED. I LOVE it, its brighter and has a much tighter spread, with the 15 lumen output mode as well that gets over 60-72 hours run-time. Its been my best EDC carry light so far.

What kind of finish does it have? The hard anodized "olive drab" finish, or the black? Just curious, either one will do just fine really.

Also, have you installed it onto a (___?) Surefire? whats its performance like? Distance/spread/battery life?

So all I would need in order to get my Z2 CBL to work with the 9v KT2 TH conversion, is a battery tube extension and some form of tape switch if I wanted to mount it as a DWL?
