Going to the shop tomorrow to nab the Armalite lower they have there, and see if they have a lower parts kit. I'll probably order an upper from Del-Ton, though, as I don't trust myself enough to not fuck that up. I'm thinking 16", A1 sights, pencil barrel. :yum:

One thing at a time though, student budget FTL.

Should I blast this song in the car on the way? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGgD8TmI96o

recently built a rifle kit with parts from del-ton. Very happy with it. Went with the 16" heavy barrel with the midlength gas system.

If you're going to buy from delton, head over to their vendor forum on ar15.com. If you sign up through ar15, and contact them, you can get a discount on some of their stuff.

I don't know if they'll do discounts on complete uppers or not. I know they don't for rifle kits.

I was very impressed with their customer service. The rifle has ran great for me as well. They get my seal of approval... whatever that's worth.

What's wrong with buying one that is complete from a local shop? I guess i don't understand the particulars in the builds. :dunno:

I saw a few ARs at the gun show this weekend and couldn't tell you the difference except price and they all looked like good pieces.

If you're just wanting a range toy, I don't think there's a good reason to spend much. If you want to get pickier and be certain you have certain features/testing you might need to pay a little more with the benefit being reliability. I like knowing my gun has exactly what I want in it.

Fair enough. Not incredibly interested in ARs right now but I'm sure I will be soon enough. I'll dig deeper once I get there.

Because no one has the specific rifle I want. They all have Bushmaster M4geries, which are fantastic guns, don't get me wrong, but it's not what I'm looking for.

I specifically want an A1 upper with a 16" pencil barrel, and Del-Ton can assemble that for me at a pretty reasonable price. I'm assembling the lower myself because I need to keep busy. :mamoru:

From what I've read, the government charges an excise tax on each firearm a manufacturer assembles and sells. This tax is passed on to the consumer and results in a higher price if he purchases a complete rifle. If the consumer chooses to put the rifle together himself for personal use, then the rifle is not subject to the tax.

As CJJ said: You should probably get interested sooner rather later.

I personally would recommend a lighter barrel. There's no reason for a HBAR. :hs:
