Is it possible to have a nice build for use as a media center?

I built a Dual Core Shuttle PC about 6-8 months ago for about $415 (case/board, ram). Works well running Vista media center.

sure, at least for the key components

probably tough if you factor in a good tv tuner/capture card if you want DVR,... and of course,.. storage. how much do you need? 1TB for me is not enough.

I just built a nice, low power consumption unit for about 400.
    45watt dual,
    4770.
    4gb
It was not a problem and runs great.

    You can do it.

TV tuner could make that tough since the good ones start at around $100 but otherwise its very doable.

This is true, I didnt have to purchase a tuner card since they already had one.
