Ok I've never tried deadlifts before... mainly because most of the time I'm at the gym alone, but even when I do have a partner, they usually don't dead lift.

I've picked up a little on the form just from watching videos and reading and seeing other lifters at the gym... but what type of numbers can I expect when I first start out?

Right now I'm ~183lbs and i squat 315 x 4 for my 5th set of squats usually.... reading another thread people were talkin about their deads being much more than their squats, but I just can't see this for me at first anyhow...

just start with a manageable load and work your way up man. don't jump right into dl'ing 400lbs your first time. i would say throw 45's on each side and get your form down

Start at 135 and work your way as comfortable, just make sure to keep your form right.

I think I started at 405 to be honest. I went from 315 with a few yanks, then went to 405 and played with that for a while before moving up.

    I'm an irregular case.

I didn't go near deads for maybe the first 8 years of training. I was already over 215lbs 5'10 and competed.

I had a great bench and squat way before touching the deads. I was introduced by a PL friend of mine. He was pulling close to 7 bills and told me that I'd easily pass him if I trained hard enough. He was right, I was pulling close to 6 in the matter of a couple months. it just came easy to me. Hell after nealry 15 months off I still cranked 500 out of the gate.

I want to hit my goal of 700 @ 200lbs before June.

you can start with your body weight easily. when i first started lifting i did 135 lbs easily while weighing 138 lbs. then i did 185 the next time i did dead lifts. i had a trainer thoguh so he was watching my form.

Well the fact you've already done squats means your legs and glutes are used to some of it. I remember when I first started deads/squats after doing nothing and it felt like my ass was ripping apart.

So I would say start with body weight, say double plates and work up from there. Say 22.5 or 45s step ups. Just get the feel for it.

Me too, upper body with zero legs in my first years of weight training.

I remember my first deads/squats it will like the muscles were going to rip of my glutes!
