last night, while i was doing deadlifts i overheard a group of old people (2 females/2 males) talking about the deadlift. these 2 old men have been attending this gym for years (3+) as what one of the workers their had told me. everytime i come in, i would see these 2 same guys just on the machines. specifically the lat pull down, bicep curl, t-bar row, and some leg machines...same machine over and over. since the deadlift doesnt exist in this gym, one of the old ladies asked "what does that do?/whats the point of that?" to the old men. the old man replies with "you just pull the bar up to your waist..*blah blah [me screaming]*...none of that for me, goodluck messing up your back. thats why i do machines". and this guy is on the bicep curl machine doing alternate curls with a belt swinging his body like hes raving. from what i seen and heard from other gym members their, him and his partner look the same as the day they walked in the gym. i wanted to say something but i just didnt know wtf to say

    lol...sounds like my gym

i go to a very "social gym" as well

seems like I'm the only one that ever uses the cage to do my squats, deads. It gets worse when I do cleans and snatches

dats ok, i'll let them have their smith machines. It's nice not having to wait to do squats.

Tell them, "What does it do? It builds vicious, brute strength, but it requires balls. That's why -you- (point at the guy talking shit) don't do it."

I was told by an old guy not to do over 225, because thats how he messed up his back and had to quit lifting :hsugh:

it is nuts how many people think deadlifting is bad for your back. Before I got into lifting I thought it was bad also :hs:

It can be absolutely horrible for your back, if your form sucks. But the same can be said for pretty much anything else you can do in the gym. If your form sucks, you can really hurt yourself.

That's usually the excuse people use to not do it, especially when they lack intestinal and/or testicular fortitude.

i was doing good mornings, and professional football players were looking at me like i was crazy. i assume it was because i was doing good mornings, not because I'm ugly.

edit:it's neato that the "i was doing good mornings" parts line up with each other perfectly :o

It's possible that they were staring because of both reasons. :hsd:

I don't have a clue who they are but they're big, have eskimoes gear and they're all doing the same thing so I have to assume. Can't recognize any of them.

 i'm just saying, it's not only old weak men who have a "that exercise is dangerous" mentality.

I dunno though. maybe i am just ugly :dunno:
