deadlift- thigh involvement...BDR, GT, NUDE, EVO

    For all the PL'ers,

    What is the deal with thigh involvement with the Deadlift?

    I've been told 2 different techniques...

    1. Once the bar is past the knees, glide/slide it up the thigh till lockout
    2. Avoid doing 1 because it becomes more of a "thigh lift"

    I've noticed once I get it past my knee, I can usually slide it up my thigh without hitching. But I feel more comfortable not touching the thigh.

    What's your opinion? Is it legal to do this in competition?

    IIRC it can drag but it's gotta be smooth (i.e no hitching).

    cool, I do notice that it drags up my shorts afterward...

    I basically blackout during PR attempts :rofl:

    I'm actually down to 210 being out of college now. 630 max, trying to get to 650 by the end of summer.

    Not that I am a deadlift master or anything, but I drag the bar up my shins and thighs the entire time. Just keep fluid motion on the thigh to prevent a hitch to get the weight moving up again.

    Most anyone that deadlifts fairly heavy weight will have bruises and scrapes along their shin.
