is it normal for the lower back to firm up/stiffen after a set?

mine does it after each set, not sure if my form is wrong or not, but I am pretty sure it's dead on...I've had like 4 diff people look at me and I am always watching myself in the mirror

I make sure it's mostly my legs doing the straighting at first, bar in contact with shins, and when my legs are fully extended I straighten my back as it's arched

uhhh from what it sounds like youre straightening your legs first and shooting your ass up in the air then beating the shit out of your bowed back to get the weight up....

I think you are right, and I am straighting my back up at the top

should I be straightening it slowly with my legs? like as my legs are straightening my back is as well?

My back always gets really tight, stiff, and sore while doing deadlifts, sldl's, etc.

I am just afraid of hurting it to tell ya the truth
and I know bad form can cause that

I will try Ownage's tip to straighten it with the legs and if things dont get better I'll sumo it up if that's easier

Word. Sometimes I have to lay down on a gym floor for a while because my lower back gets so pumped its painful as fuck. Strangely enough its never really that sore the next day.

I'm around 6'1 and I pull conventional and I still have to remind myself not to lock my legs out too early sometimes, because that leads to me rounding my back.

I might give sumo a try again, I havn't done that since I was pulling 405. I remember barely being able to get it up with sumo, then switched to conventional and it flew off the floor.

Best tip I can give you: pick a spot on the wall, keep your eyes on that spot as you lift. Don't look down at your feet and concentrate on keeping your lower back neutral and not curved over.
