i wont be able to get a good squating bar for a while (slowing building up home gym) but i can use dumbells, so how much of a difference is there going to be in doing dumbell squats verus your regular squats?

im assuming theres gotta be a bit of differnce in terms of how much your core is getting worked? :dunno:

depending on how you hold the db's, your upper body might be heavily involved, versus back squats where the bar is more resting rather than requiring your arms to support it.

why do you need a 'good' squatting bar, just get any standard 45 barbell

ive never done dumbbell squats as you might be able to tell :hs:

Well with dumbells your weight is restricted by your grip.

    Agreed.

I enjoy DB squats because I dont have a cage. However, this is true weight is restricted by grip..

That and my DBs only go to 85.. sigh.

you don't need a cage... you could always just put weight on a barbell, get it to your chest, and front squat :dunno: that's the only barbell squat I can really do given my setup at home, but it beats the shit out of weak ass DB squats (which are fine, but I don't like bringing my feet so close together, makes my knees unhappy)

All squats make my knees unhappy :(

I've not done a front BB squat before, but I'll give it a shot.

Try one legged DB squats. Put your foot up on a bench or chair.

My knees use to hurt all of the time. When I switched to box squatting only, the pain went away.

Interesting. Worth a shot... I've dislocated my knee a few times, and now not only are they uncomfortable during squats, but I'm fucking scared of injury again. Last thing I need is for it to dislocate during/post squat while I still am baring weight.

However, I do wear an orthopedic brace that holds the patella in place.

You have to box squat correctly though. You have to start the squat by sticking your ass back and then keep sitting back as far as you can while pushing your knees apart. Your knees should not come over your feet. That's what causes all of the injuries and pain.

front squats are harder on the knees.
I've got shitty knees too. I just don't go rediculously heavy and I wrap them every set.
