It seems to me that you're new to comics, eh? :bigthumb:
Well, the first thing to know is that each comic series tells stories in "story arcs". Arcs range in length from 1 to 12 issues, with an average around 6 issues (half a year). The first issue of an arc is usually a good "jumping on point." This is where you want to start on a series.

It's difficult though for a new reader to jump onto an ongoing series since they don't know easily when a new story starts. However, you can ask here and someone is bound to know where the book is at story-wise and when the next arc starts.

Right now, the Detective Comics are doing a lot of "one-shot" stories; those are stories that are contained wholly within 1 issue. Seeing as you already bought an issue of Detective, you probably can observe how the story is easy to follow with no apparent cliffhanger at the end. This series should be good to introduce you to the current Batman mythos.

Detective Comics has been very good lately; I'd recommend buying the last few backissues just to get a little more caught up on what's going on in the world of Batman right now.

Do you know what genres of comics you like? Superhero comics are the main category, and within that are many other categories; Superman and Batman comics progress very differently. Also, Batman is a solo hero, so his books focus on him. If you get a Justice League of America comic, it'll read very differently; it's called an ensemble book, or a team book. I like both though :p

If you're concerned about where to jump on, you could just read the series on Warskrull and find out where the story is at, or even find out if you enjoy the book.

Best thing though is to tell us what you like and we'll recommend stuff to you. I always recommend Marvel's Moon Knight. It just hit issue 8 this week, so there's not too many backissues to catch up on. I think the new arc started on issue 7, which should still be available at most comic shops. However, I always stress that you should read the black & white trade: Essential Moon Knight which is about $15 for a ton of material. However, it'll give you a huge introduction to the world of Moon Knight, and then when you read the new series, it's like a huge homage to his past, and you feel so rewarded. But I ramble. Good night :)

Im fairly new to comics to but I bought X-Men essential a while ago and have been reading that. So basically I've started from the beginning and hope to read, with the help of WarSkrull, to the end. So far I think I am on X-Men 138. Few hundred more issues to go.

    XD. I started on X-Men 94.

If you've got the patience to learn all that continuity, it's really nice to help understand what's going on. I'd also recommend catching up on Uncanny X-Men also:noes:

Jesterkiller is one of the people who probably doesn't know Moon Knight's past well; for the nonfans, he's right. Axio is just a zealot.

If I still had money, I'd be pulling Moon Knight, Immortal Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimates, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, JLA, JSA, and Teen Titans. That's only about $50/month. God, I wish I had money :wtc:

Come to think of it, I might even be tempted to add Invincible or TWD. But hey, that costs money!
