I'm on day 6 withdrawing from OxyContin, and while it's not as bad as days 2, 3, or 4 it's still horrible.
I was doing about an 120mg a day for 8 months, then the last few weeks I was on Methadose doing about 60mg of that. Packed my bags, took vacation time from work, and drove 7 hours into North Wisconsin to a cabin to take myself out of that situation. Worst experience of my life, I hope this is worth it.

ouch, you gotta find something to bide your time with, not lock yourself in a cabin going crazy. That's how slasher movies start out.

Sounds rough, my friend does about that much Oxy a day when he can find it. Withdrawing from it is basically like withdrawing from Heroine, you get dopesick and it's a pretty miserable experience from what I hear. Have you considering checking yourself into a local detox clinic? How about a rehabilitation facility, in-patient or out-patient?

If you think you can tough the road without those, I'd suggest attending an NA/AA meeting daily, if not more than 1 a day. People at NA meetings who have kicked Heroine/Oxycontin also may be able to provide you with better advice as well, so go and check it out. Personally, I've never had to kick opiates, but I've certainly kicked an addiction or two, and it isn't an easy thing to do, it usually requires help, hit some meetings!

hang in there, it takes time for it to get out of your system, drinking lots of fluids might help,

I agree with Eligh, you might find some relief in a meeting

It's worth it in the long run, trust me. I have seen many freinds try to get off drugs, some do, some don't. The ones that do get a new lease on life, sure its a battle but better than the other option.

Five weeks versus the rest of your life, man. Be strong and good luck!

does it take a long time to get hooked or just it just depend on the person, reason i ask is i was taking 120 mg a day plus vicodans for about 2 months, then i just stopped when my perscription ran out, and i didn't feel like i needed it even though i was still in pain,

weird, I meant oxycodone/hydrocodone - those are different right? one is vicodin, the other is oxycontin -

I guess if you have insurance and can get prescriptions it wouldn't cost too much, vicodin is cheap from the pharmacy as opposed to oxy's off the street @ $10.00 per mg.

    what ever

keep off the stuff, or you'll just have to go through withdrawals, again and again

You mean 5, 7.5 or 10mg of vicodin... the 500mg on the bottle is Tylenol. So you were taking 10, 15, or 20mg 4 times daily.

No difference, Oxycontin is brand name for Oxycodone with no tylenol. Come in varying dosages.

btw : thread poster : good luck

Then you were taking about 40mg of hydrocodone a day along with your 120 of oxycodone. :nono:

Telly: It's wonderful to hear that you're still clean. Please feel free to tell your story in the thread entitled My Story. Also, just so you know, attending 12-step meetings has myself and many other recovering addicts in this forum. If you would like more support with your recovery, you are more than welcome to start a new thread.

Unforutnately, this has really become a discussion about specific drugs, and not about addiciton and recovery. I feel compelled to lock this forum, Road To Recovery focus on addiction and recovery, not disputes about different kinds/dosages of opiates.
