they best depressing music usually falls into music with a more somber melody to it. The best of the best and also the best artist to ever walk the face of the earth is Elliott Smith. His music is just amazing it is beyond everything else. Also Nick Drake's music has many dark influences and underlying tones. That should start you off.

Check out Wolves in the Throne Room.

They're a pretty dark and depressing black metal band with a bit of doom metal mixed in making them pretty slow-paced for a black metal band.

Mr. Sooka, yo I'm a fan of Machine Head, Shadows Fall, etc... that link was a bit too much, but thanks anyway. Would appreciate anything along the bands I suggested but I need to be gently eased into that, LOL

My Dying Bride - For My Fallen Angel
As I draw up my breath,
    And silver fills my eyes.
    I kiss her still,
    For she will never rise.
    On my weak body,
    Lays her dying hand.
    Through those meadows of Heaven,
    Where we ran.
Like a thief in the night,
    The wind blows so light.
    It wars with my tears,
That won't dry for many years.
    Loves golden arrow
    At her should have fled,
    And not Deaths ebon dart
    To strike her dead.
