    From Brownell's / Magpul:

SPECS: Reinforced molded polymer, Black, Dark Earth, O.D. Green, or Foliage Green. 7¼" (cm) OAL, 5¼" (13.3cm) high. Mil-Spec fits mil-spec 1.14" O.D. carbine buffer tubes. Universal fits rifles with 1.17” O.D. commercial AR-15 carbine buffer tubes.

They have a "Universal" in stock but I honestly have no idea the difference between the two sizes. What's the overall impact here? :dunno:

It says right in what you posted.

    Mil-spec = 1.14" OD Buffer Tube
Universal = 1.17" OD Buffer Tube

buy the one that fits your buffer tube. grab a caliper and measure your buffer tube if you don't know.
most rifles tend to have the 1.17" tube on them if they were an off the shelf rifle.

get milspec. 95% of stocks you will want to buy are milspec.

I don't have a buffer tube. All I have right now is a stripped lower.

So the only difference is I need to order a 1.17" buffer tube? Or does an upper come with that? Or what? See? I'm dumb on all this DIY assembly from parts.

    None in stock. :/

It doesnt matter what you get as long as your stock matches your receiver extension. There are more mil-spec stock options (lol) so I'd go with a mil-spec receiver extension.

I was ready to spend close to $200 on the CMMG BCG & charging handle, so I figure that puts me at darn close to $1k on the upper by itself so not so bad? :o

My AR right now is a plain-jane A2 I got for $600 so I'm not smart on the building-end of this. :o

But I guess I'm sticking with the mil-spec. Thanks though. :)

$200 for a bcg and charging handle? Why such a premium? $130 for bcg + $20-25 for charging handle.

n0b question as well. The picture comparison above brings this to light.

I have a Bushmaster lower with an A2 stock on it right now. Can I order a milspec buffer tube and use it with my Bushmaster lower? I see the thread sizes on the buffer tubes above are different.

    And spring, rite?

I assumed if I ordered a mil-spec buffer, buffer tube, and spring assembly as a package it'd thread in fine; but seeing those two buffer tubes made me think maybe the threading on my bushmaster lower would be different from milspec.

    Thanks homeskrillets.
