    Look around for Hijackthis!
It's a small utility that can help you control what is starting up when your machine starts up as well as when IE is going and what not.
Make sure to read all the warnings associated with it as well.
If used improperly you could mess yourself up pretty good.

Spybot and adaware are usually best if used together. But yeah, search for hijackthis and should help you out.

Spybot and adaware are the best. then use SpywareBlaster to prevent getting any more.

I run a combination of startuplist, bhodemon (shows browser helps plugins), hijackthis, SpySweeper 3.0 and Norton AV 2003.....and windowsupdate ever couple days. Stuff still gets in, but it's pretty rare.

good. my dad had it and it was the only thing the apps you're using couldn't get rid of and it was causing random pop-ups too.

I'd activate the task manager, look for unusual user process names, then google 'em. Someone somewhere has already fought that particular spyware at some point.

Failing that, it's as easy as going to mozilla.org, download and install firefox. No more popups!
